Taking Inspection One Step Further

Optel Vision's OCV+ Inspection Frames

Many in the field of Vision Inspection are familiar with Optical Character Recognition (OCR) and Optical Character Verification (OCV). Now, depending on a company’s specific inspection needs, recognition of characters (OCR) may suffice, and in the event companies require additional operational requirements, verification of codes or numbers can be carried out by OCV inspection. However, do these levels of inspection answer every pharmaceutical company’s needs? Unfortunately not.

Recent demands from companies packaging expensive drugs, highly controlled drugs or drugs destined for clinical trials (varying patient numbers) require complete and secure verification of each product. Companies such as these, have become the driving force behind yet another innovative vision inspection feature from Optel Vision: OCV+. Optel Vision’s OCV+ was specifically designed to provide an enhanced form of product verification which is highly controlled and precise.

Operators first manually enter the code or number string into the Optel Vision Code Inspector. A valid reference code or number is then placed in front of the camera and a reference image is then captured and saved. The system then compares the manually entered data to the reference image and either accepts the reference image or blocks the reference process.

The manual entering of the character string provides a double form of verification. Further verification can be obtained if OCV+ is combined with a start-up Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), that validates the reference code by a second operator or supervisor.

Therefore, OCV+ is an added security feature that allows companies to take their packaging line security line one step further.
