What are some of the challenges that older packaging lines pose?

The Problem

A couple of years ago, one of our projects involved the installation of several vision inspection systems on an older packaging line. Specifically, a major pharmaceutical firm wanted to replace their existing vision systems. These systems were from a competitor, and therefore, did not involve upgrading of our own systems. The major obstacles to overcome were spacial constraints and the fact that the lines’ programmable logic controls (PLC’s) were older models.

Solution 1

Optel Vision systems are designed to be space-saving solutions that are seamlessly integrated onto existing packaging lines in as little time as possible. No problems were encountered and integration of the systems occurred in a shorter period than estimated.

Solution 2

Optel Vision systems have sufficient I/O ports to control inspections of products on a packaging line as a stand-alone system. Therefore, integration of Optel Vision systems into an existing packaging line’s PLC is an option, not a requirement. For faster system installation and easier validation, most customers use Optel Vision systems as stand-alone units for controlling the packaging line, the ejector, and the alarms.
