Questions & Answers

Can accurate tracking of blister packs originating from different cutting matrices be easily achieved?

Can accurate inspection of white tablets on a white blister background be carried out without back lighting?

Situation

Two major pharmaceutical firms were looking to install vision inspection systems on their blister packaging lines. For one firm, they were changing their cutting matrices from product to product; therefore, they required a system that was flexible enough to adjust to these differences and that would ensure accurate tracking of all errors no matter which product was being inspected or what cutting matrex was being used.

Due to spatial constraints within the second company’s packaging facility, the company decided to maximize space by changing the direction of product flow down the line after the cutting station. However, all rejects were to be carried out with the same output. In addition, they requested that inspection of white tablets on a white background be carried out without back lighting so that the tablets would not appear dark.

Solution

Due to Optel Vision’s Blister Pack Inspector’s inspection capabilities, these project requirements were both met with ease.

The Optel Vision Blister Pack Inspector:

  • has extremely precise timing and with the use of product, ejection, inspection and cutting zones is capable of continually localizing and accurately tracking errors down the line even if the direction of conveyor movement changes or if different cutting matrices are used. (The Blister Pack Inspector accommodates all cutting matrices currently available on the market).

  • has enhanced optics with an increased field of view that allows for analysis of very large PVC’s and for inspection of white tablets on a white background without back lighting.

What are the advantages of these features:

  • precision tracking of all products under the most complex situations. This ensures accurate and constant monitoring of all “good” and “bad” products on the line, 100% of the time.

  • no need for back lighting so tablets do not appear black on white background, but rather continually white. This improves line productivity since it allows for tablet surface inspection to be accurately carried out at the same time.
