A Word From The President

Louis Roy
Louis Roy, President

As the start of yet another new year is fast approaching, I would like to take this opportunity to take a brief look back at some of the year’s events in the packaging industry, as well as at some of the changes and advances that Optel Vision has made over the year.

The major buzz of the year on the packaging front was the movement towards implementing anti-counterfeiting measures or devices on some highly vulnerable drugs. Florida may be leading the way with scheduled state wide electronic pedigree implementation for the summer of 2006, but several other states are not far behind. Of course on the federal front, there is the revised Model Rules from the FDA, which states electronic pedigrees for products will be required by 2007. Overseas, we saw slightly different trends; there was more of a move towards serialization through the use of Bollino tags. We also saw that companies have begun to take matters into their own hands regarding implementing serialization, RFID tags, serialized bar codes, and etc.

On the Optel Vision side, during the year we successfully launched our new blister inspection head with its enhanced tablet and capsule inspection. It now provides enhanced inspection capabilities for even the most difficult applications such as white tablets or capsules on a white background without the use of back lighting. In addition, it provides enhanced true-color inspection on dual color tablets or capsules.

Then we had our development of a powerful space saving device: the alternating, component frame grabber abstraction. This uniquely designed element allows one physical camera to be divided into multiple logical cameras. The end result is an increase in the number of component inspections in a limited amount of space since only one physical camera is actually present.

On a more personal side, we saw an expansion of our sales team and the opening of our new US based office in Georgia. And finally, what do we have in store for 2006? We are happy to announce that we will be introducing a powerful line monitoring tool as part of our systems’ packages.

So, as you can see, we have seen a lot over the year, but rest assured, we will not stop there. We are committed to continuing to provide innovative inspection solutions and the best in Inspection, Integration & Service.

So, as we enter into the New Year, I would like to express my thanks to all of our clients and colleagues who have been with us over the years, and on behalf of the entire team at Optel Vision, I extend warmest wishes for health, happiness and prosperity to you and yours in the New Year. Happy Holidays!
