Questions & Answers

Optel Vision provides another inspection solution for fraud and anti-counterfeiting packaging devices!

Situation

Recently, a major pharmaceutical company approached Optel Vision for an anti-counterfeiting inspection solution for their product labels. Specifically, these labels contained five codes to be inspected and verified, but two of them, one bar code and one human readable code, were the same serialized value (a.k.a. “Bollino”). In addition, the inspection of these two codes had to be carried out at the same time and compared to one another since they contained the same information.

To further complicate the inspection, only the lower and upper limits of the codes’ series were to be known and entered into the system; therefore, the system would have to use these codes as limits to sort and verify all codes analyzed by the system. Furthermore, the codes presented to the system would be in random order. Finally, The system would have to store and transfer all inspection data to the production system.

Solution

Even before the legislation requiring track & trace came into play, Optel Vision had developed a serialization tool for both bar codes and human readable codes. The flexibility of this tool allows for simulatenous verification of multiple codes, (OCV on human readable codes), as well as the securely storing and transfering all inspection data, (accepted and rejected codes), necessary for track & trace records. Furthermore, this tool accepts any code increment series and is capable of recording and analyzing random code series when only the lower and upper code limits are known.

To date, the Optel Vision Serialization Tool has proven to be a powerful inspection solution for verifying serialized codes and bar codes on several packaging lines in the United States and Europe.
