Questions & Answers
How necessary is expandable inspection capabilities?
Situation
Recently Optel Vision was approached by a pharmaceutical contract packaging firm that needed to replace their vision inspection systems. These vision systems had been purchased from a competitor only two years previously and were simply not meeting the required vision inspection accuracy. Furthermore, over the next two years, additional inspections capabilities were going to have to be added to their packaging lines. For the moment, however, six lines required verification of lot numbers and expiration dates on labels, while respecting 21 CFR Part 11 compliance.

Solution
In designing its systems’ platform, Optel Vision wanted to ensure that strategic flexibility would be a standard feature in all of its vision inspection solutions. Specifically, Optel Vision chose the route of modular product architecture so that all of its systems use the same type of platform. This characteristic facilitates quick and easy inspection expandability.
Therefore, Optel Vision was able to provide expandable, flexible solutions through its modular architectural design that easily met the customer’s current and future inspection requirements.
